A great article in Metro West about my show at Danforth Art.
It's still there till November 3. He called this piece a fusion of "Salvador Dali and Show Dog magazine."
From Mary Armstrong, a wonderful artist...
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be sure that you know how much I enjoyed your paintings at The Danforth. I am so glad to have seen the show.
My first reaction was WOW. And that was a very immediate and sensual response to the bold imagery and the gorgeous color! Then, of course there is the time for closer scrutiny and your work is dense and
layered enough to invite that. The imagery presented me with profound riddles(which I like contemplating). I think what I really loved about the imagery is how it connected me to the deep ancient pool of childhood memory. I often feel, in my painting practice, that I am being "born back into the past" and that is how, ultimately,I arrive at the present. It is as if the truths
live in the space of memory, reflection and thought made physical by the act of painting. I appreciated the deliberate combinations of intention and accident
and, again, the dynamic energy that can result from those juxtapositions. The imagery is very memorable. The color resonates somewhere beyond thought.
Thank you for all of that!
Hope all is well.
Fond Regards, Mary A
